2 min read

PARKERSBURG -- In honor of Colorectal Cancer awareness month, WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center will host an informative event today to discuss the importance of screenings and where they are available.

A 10 by 12 foot inflatable colon will be on display at Camden Clark’s Campus in front of Medical Office Building B and it will demonstrate “what a healthy colon looks like along with what it looks like when colon cancer and other conditions are present,” according to a press release from the hospital.

WVU Medicine Camden Clark Regional Cancer Center and Digestive Diseases Services will be on hand to answer questions and share information while people visit the “Strollin’ Colon” exhibit.

“The WVU Cancer Institute at Camden Clark is just as focused on cancer screening and prevention as we are state-of-the-art treatment,” Reinnie Leavitt, director of cancer services at Camden Clark, said. “We are excited to share this opportunity with the community and emphasize the importance of screening and Colon Cancer Awareness.”

Although Colorectal cancer is the third most common cause of cancer deaths among men and women combined in the U.S. and W.Va., the release said it is the one of the most preventable cancers.

“Overall, the lifetime risk of developing cancer is about 1 in 23 for men and 1 in 26 for women,” the release said.

The “Strollin’ Colon” will be on display today from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.
