CHARLESTON -- The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Monday reported six additional deaths from COVID-19.
The department confirmed the deaths of an 85-year-old woman from Marshall County, a 77-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 78-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 92-year-old man from Berkeley County, a 77-year-old woman from Cabell County and a 93-year-old woman from Upshur County.
The six deaths raise the total since the pandemic began to 7,910.
"I extend my deepest sympathy to those mourning loved ones and friends," said Dr. Jeffrey H. Coben, interim department secretary. "If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home, monitor your symptoms and follow guidance from your healthcare provider."
Active cases statewide are again below 800, according to the department. The number may be on the low side because positive results from in-home tests do not have to be reported.
The state reported 780 active cases statewide Monday. Another 662 positive case results have been received since the last pandemic update on Friday morning.
Current active cases in local counties (previous report) were: Calhoun 0 (0), Doddridge 1 (1), Gilmer 2 (0), Jackson 7 (6), Pleasants 2 (1), Ritchie 3 (7), Roane 11 (5), Tyler 2 (0), Wetzel 2 (3), Wirt 1 (4), Wood 15 (21).
Gilmer and Roane counties in the region are yellow, second lowest level to green on the County Alert System Map that is based on infection rates and percent positivity. All other counties in the region are green.
Seven counties in the state are yellow in the state and all others are green.
Levels are determined by the lower reading of the infection rate and percent positivity. In Gilmer and Roane, the percent positivity is in the gold mid-level range.
The measurement for infection rate in Pleasants and Tyler counties is in the yellow range.
Hospital cases statewide were at 195 with 31 patients in an intensive care unit and seven on ventilators. Four pediatric cases with one in an ICU were reported.
Cases were last below 200 on Oct. 1.
