CHARLESTON -- The number of pediatric COVID-19 hospitalizations in West Virginia remains low despite an error on Wednesday.
The Department of Health and Human Resources on Thursday said the West Virginia Hospital Association, which supplies the data to the department, confirmed there was an error reported from a hospital in Wednesday's report that is published to the state's COVID-19 dashboard. The pediatric total should have been three, not 21, the department said.
The dashboard is located at coronavirus.wv.gov.
Four pediatric cases were reported Thursday, with one in an intensive care unit.
Statewide, the department reported 209 people in a hospital with COVID-19, 26 of those in an ICU and 10 on a ventilator.
Fifteen more deaths from COVID-19 were reported Thursday morning by the DHHR.
The deaths include 95- and 96-year-old women from Wood County, according to the department. Other confirmed deaths were an 83-year-old man from Monongalia County, a 79-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 83-year-old woman from Hancock County, an 84-year-old man from Boone County, a 74-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 91-year-old man from Kanawha County, an 85-year-old man from Putnam County, a 90-year-old woman from Fayette County, a 90-year-old woman from Cabell County, an 83-year-old female from Nicholas County, a 69-year-old woman from Berkeley County, a 91-year-old woman from Marion County and an 80-year-old woman from Taylor County.

"Anyone can get severe COVID disease, and that's why vaccines and boosters are critical," Dr. Jeffrey H. Coben, interim DHHR secretary, said. "We extend our deepest sympathies to these families."
The department also reported 755 active cases of the virus, 26 higher than on Wednesday morning. Another 289 new cases were received in the 24-hour period between the Wednesday and Thursday updates.
Seven counties, three fewer than on Wednesday, are yellow on the County Alert System Map based on infection rate and percent positivity on tests. Wirt and Doddridge counties are yellow, second lowest to green, in this region.
All other counties in the state are green.
