CHARLESTON -- Active cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus continue to fluctuate in West Virginia where the Department of Health and Human Resources on Tuesday reported over 900.
The department on Tuesday morning reported 933 active cases, 153 more than Monday, with another 487 new cases received in the 24-hour period between the Monday and Tuesday morning pandemic reports.
Current active cases in local counties (previous day) were: Calhoun 0 (0), Doddridge 1 (1), Gilmer 4 (2), Jackson 9 (7), Pleasants 1 (2), Ritchie 5 (3), Roane 9 (11), Tyler 2 (2), Wetzel 2 (2), Wirt 3 (1), Wood 23 (15).
Gilmer and Roane remain the only yellow counties in the region. Yellow is the second lowest level to green on the County Alert System Map that is based on infection rates and percent positivity.
Five counties in the state are yellow and all others are green.
Three more deaths from the virus were reported on Tuesday, raising the total to 7,913 since the pandemic began.
The deaths were a 71-year-old woman from Raleigh County, an 85-year-old man from Hampshire County and a 76-year-old man from Raleigh County.
"We offer our condolences to the friends and family who are grieving the loss of their loved ones," Dr. Jeffrey H. Coben, interim department secretary, said. Hospital cases statewide were at 196 with 28 patients in an intensive care unit and seven on ventilators. Five pediatric cases with two in an ICU were reported.
