CHARLESTON -- Another three residents of the Mid-Ohio Valley are among the confirmed COVID-19 coronavirus deaths reported Monday morning by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported on Monday.
Six deaths from the virus were reported since Friday on Monday in the department's pandemic report. The death count as of Monday was at 7,808.
The state has confirmed the deaths of a 75-year-old woman from Wood County, an 80-year-old man from Wetzel County, a 78-year-old man from Doddridge County, a 68-year-old man from Raleigh County, a 65-year-old woman from Marshall County and a 64-year-old man from Raleigh County.
"We extend our condolences to those impacted by the loss of friends and loved ones," said Dr. Jeffrey H. Coben, interim secretary of the department. "Let's honor their memory by staying current on vaccines and boosters to help prevent further COVID-related deaths."
The state reported 854 active cases. Another 600 new cases of the virus were received since Friday, the state said.
Current active cases in local counties are (previous report): Calhoun 1 (3), Doddridge 1 (3), Gilmer 1 (2), Jackson 12 (16), Pleasants 1 (1), Ritchie 2 (0), Roane, 6 (8), Tyler 7 (5), Wetzel 1 (1), Wirt 0 (0), Wood 32 (30).
Tyler and Ritchie counties are yellow on the County Alert System Map based on infection rates and percent positivity. Yellow is second lowest to green.
Fifteen counties in the state are yellow. All others are green.
The state reported 257 patients in a hospital with 36 in an intensive care unit and nine on a ventilator. Six pediatric cases with two in an ICU were reported.
