Grand Central Avenue closes after vehicle strikes utility pole

VIENNA -- A single vehicle accident Thursday on Grand Central Avenue in Vienna shut down traffic traveling in both directions and knocked out power to 43 customers in the area.
Vienna Police Chief Mike Pifer said the accident was reported at 11:02 a.m.
He said a silver SUV, driven by a male out of Parkersburg, was traveling south on Grand Central Avenue when it veered right off the roadway and struck a utility pole. Pifer said there were also two female passengers and an infant in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Pifer said St. Joseph Ambulance Service was on scene but no one was transported to the hospital.
Pifer said the driver of the SUV claimed the accident was caused by mechanical issues but that the Vienna Police Department was still investigating and charges could be filed against the driver later.
A representative from First Energy said the company received reports of power outages around noon and as of 4 p.m. Thursday 43 customers were still without power. Crews were working on repairs and power was expected to be restored later Thursday.
More information about the accident and the power outage was not available at the time of this report.
