Auto accident leads to Lubeck power outage

LUBECK -- An accident on W.Va. 68 (Harris Highway) knocked out power to 1,500 residents in the Lubeck area Wednesday afternoon.
A call came into the 911 Center at 2:07 p.m. stating an accident had occurred near the Dollar General on W.Va. 68.
Sheriff Rick Woodyard said the Wood County Sheriff's office responded to the scene at the cross lanes of Simon Lane and W.Va. 68 where a vehicle had collided with a U-Haul box truck causing the truck to strike a utility pole knocking it down onto a nearby building.
Woodyard said the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident and that one of the occupants had suffered minor injuries. He said a transformer had been knocked to the ground and utility workers from Mon Power were also on scene. Woodyard said more information would be available when the accident report was finalized today.
A representative from Mon Power said the initial accident knocked out power to 1,500 customers in the area but power had been restored to 800 customers by 4 p.m. Wednesday. The representative said restoration to the remaining customers without power was completed Wednesday evening.
Michael Erb, communication coordinator for Wood County Schools, said Wednesday's dismissal of Lubeck Elementary wouldn't be delayed due to the power outage but buses for Lubeck Elementary and Blennerhassett Elementary would be delayed due to blocked routes the buses usually take.
