CHARLESTON -- No deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus were reported in the 24-hour period between the Wednesday and Thursday pandemic updates from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The count as of Thursday remained at 7,636 deaths since the pandemic began in early 2020.
The department also reported 879 active COVID-19 cases statewide with 298 new cases received from Wednesday to Thursday.
Current active cases in local counties as of Thursday (previous report) were: Calhoun 4 (5); Doddridge 2 (3); Gilmer 2 (2); Jackson 17 (23); Pleasants 4 (4); Ritchie 7 (7); Roane 16 (18), Tyler 7 (7); Wetzel 4 (6); Wirt 1 (1); Wood 36 (33).
Jackson County was upgraded from yellow to green on the County Alert System Map that is based on infection rates. Green is the lowest level.
Four counties in the region are among the 14 counties in the state that are yellow, second lowest to green: Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane and Calhoun.
The state reported 165 patients with COVID-19 complications are in the hospital with 18 in an intensive care unit and eight on a ventilator. Two pediatric patients were reported with one in an ICU.
