CHARLESTON -- Three people from the region were confirmed as deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus on Monday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
Statewide active cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus also dropped by 100 since the last pandemic pandemic update on Thursday, the department said.
The state Monday reported 665 active cases of the virus, down from 765 reported on Thursday. No updates were issued over the weekend or on Friday, which was Veterans Day and a holiday.
The state also reported 683 new positive cases were received since the last report on Thursday.
Pleasants County is among the only three yellow counties in the state on the County Alert System Map based on infection rates. Green is lowest and yellow is second lowest.
Tucker and Pendleton counties also are yellow.
Active cases in local counties on Monday (previous report) were: Calhoun, 3 (4); Doddridge, 2 (2); Gilmer, 0 (5); Jackson, 6 (3); Pleasants, 3 (8); Ritchie, 2 (3); Roane, 4 (8); Tyler, 2 (7); Wetzel, 10 (6); Wirt, 0 (1); Wood, 17 (31).
Nineteen deaths since the Thursday report have been confirmed, raising the death toll from the virus to 7,557. The confirmations include 56- and 58-year-old residents.
The deaths include a 71-year-old man from Wood County, a 72-year-old woman from Doddridge County and an 87-year-old man from Roane County.
The department also confirmed the deaths of a 75-year-old man from Boone County, a 58-year-old man from Tucker County, a 73-year-old man from Cabell County, a 76-year-old woman from Lincoln County, a 78-year-old woman from Wyoming County, an 87-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 92-year-old man from Jefferson County, a 91-year-old man from Wayne County, a 90-year-old woman from Clay County, a 62-year old female from Jefferson County, an 80-year-old man from Harrison County, a 75-year-old woman from Cabell County, a 56-year-old woman from Berkeley County, a 70-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 74-year-old woman from Kanawha County and a 71-year-old woman from Kanawha County.
"Each loss of a West Virginian is a heartbreak to a family and to our state," department Secretary Bill J. Crouch said.
The state reported 138 patients with COVID complications are in a hospital with 24 in an intensive care unit and seven on ventilators. Seven pediatric cases are in the hospital with one in an ICU and on a ventilator.
