Marietta Director of Public Safety and Service Steve Wetz is asking local cab companies and other private transportation vendors to submit bids by Nov. 4 to provide a six-month supplemental transportation pilot program within city limits during hours not currently covered by CABL bus routes.
Wetz presented the formal outline for the plan to Marietta City Council on Thursday.
The goal is to supplement current service with after-hours and alternate-hours rides. The additional operating hours the plan would cover are 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.
The transportation mode would need to be able to handle multiple persons at one time, including multiple persons with mobility devices and wheelchairs.
The plan by Wetz also would involve the private vendor reporting rider data, participating in talks with county and city officials regarding the plan, and helping to find, apply for and get grants that would subsidize the program in the long run.
The vendor would need to have the ability to report rider data in detail: number of customers by hour, shift, day and month; and number of customers using mobility devices and wheelchairs.

Applicants should keep in mind the initial deadlines for the first two steps. There is an 11 a.m. Oct. 31 deadline for submitting questions on the project. They may be submitted in writing to the City Hall office of Steve Wetz, Director of Public Safety and Service, 301 Putnam St., Marietta, or emailed to him at stevewetz@mariettaoh.net.
There is a Nov. 4 deadline for submitting a proposal.
All proposals received by then will be scheduled for presentations to the Marietta Council Streets Committee.
