CHARLESTON -- Statewide active cases remained below 1,000 in West Virginia on Wednesday, the Department of Health and Human Resources reported.
Cases totaled 912 across the state while 310 new positive cases were received in the 24-hour period between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Wednesday's case count was 36 more than Tuesday's count.
Forty-six of the 55 counties in the state are classified green, the lowest level on the County Alert System Map based on infection rates. Of the nine counties that are yellow, Doddridge is the only yellow county in the region.
Active cases in local counties on Wednesday were (Tuesday): Calhoun, 1 (4); Doddridge, 3 (2); Gilmer, 1 (2); Jackson, 8 (8); Pleasants, 3 (4); Ritchie, 2 (4); Roane, 5 (6); Tyler, 4 (2); Wetzel, 0 (2); Wirt, 0 (0); Wood, 32 (46).
No deaths were confirmed between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The death toll since the pandemic began more than 30 months ago remains at 7,479 residents of West Virginia.
COVID-19 hospitalizations were at 153 patients across the state, nine less than on Tuesday. Twenty-nine patients are in an intensive care unit with two on a ventilator. Two pediatric cases were reported on Wednesday.
