Truck rollover blocks I-77 North in Jackson County

By Staff Reports 1 min read

RAVENSWOOD -- The northbound lanes of Interstate 77 were closed for more than two-and-a-half hours Monday after a flatbed trailer overturned.

The driver of the rig, which belonged to a company out of North Carolina, was taken by helicopter to a hospital, with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, said Senior Trooper Stewart, with the West Virginia State Police's Jackson County detachment. The man's name was not released pending notification of his family.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. Monday at mile post 146 near Ravenswood, Stewart said.

"It started raining, and he lost control," he said.

The truck went off the right side of the road and overturned, Stewart said. The driver was trapped in the truck and had to be extracted by the Ravenswood and Ripley Volunteer Fire Departments.

No other vehicles were involved and no citation will be issued, Stewart said.

One northbound lane reopened around noon, a dispatcher with the Jackson County 911 Center said.
