PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man has been indicted on a murder charge.

Derek Burton Taylor, 39, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was one of 92 people indicted this week by the Wood County Grand Jury, according to a release from Wood County Prosecutor Pat Lefebure.

Taylor was arrested in March after 30-year-old Cory Friend of Parkersburg died as a result of blunt force trauma. A criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court at the time said Taylor admitted to police that he struck Friend.

Brandon Luke Parker, 29, of 1713 Park St., Parkersburg, was indicted on charges of attempted murder and wanton endangerment involving a firearm. According to a criminal complaint filed in Magistrate Court, he was seen on April 17 having an altercation with and pointing a gun at the victim in a parking lot near Latrobe Street. Witnesses said they heard a gunshot, and officers found unspent bullet casings and Parker’s cell phone at the scene, the complaint said.

Lefebure said the grand jury added the attempted murder charge at the request of the prosecution after evidence was presented.
