CHARLESTON -- No deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus were reported Monday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The death count since the virus began more than two years ago was at 7,102 on Monday.
The department reported 2,859 active cases statewide, but 2,024 new cases of the virus had been received since the last pandemic update on Friday. Active cases on Friday were 3,002.
The low in active cases this year was less than 300 in April.
Only nine of the state's 55 counties are green, the lowest level of spread on the County Alert System Map. Wyoming is the only gold county, mid-level, in the state.
All other counties are yellow, second lowest. In the Mid-Ohio Valley, Wood, Pleasants, Tyler, Wetzel, Ritchie, Doddridge, Gilmer, Calhoun and Roane are yellow. Jackson and Wirt are green.
Statewide, hospitalizations remained above 300, 303, with 140 of those unvaccinated. Thirty-two people are in an intensive care unit, 12 unvaccinated, and 10 are on a ventilator, two unvaccinated.
A person is classified as vaccinated when they have received the initial one or two doses, depending on the type of vaccine. It does not take into account recommended booster doses,
Nine pediatric patients were reported, seven of which are in an ICU.
The Division of Corrections reported 84 staff and 91 inmates are infected. Thirteen of those inmates are at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County.
In long-term care facilities, 294 staff and 326 residents have the virus.
In Jackson County, six are at the Mountain View Care Center and eight are at Ravenswood Village. Two each are at Stonerise Belmont in Pleasants County, Miletree Center in Roane County and Elizabeth Care Center in Wirt County.
In Wood County, five are at Ohio Valley Health care, two at Parkersburg Center, one at the Willows Center and two at Worthington Healthcare Center.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources recommends vaccinations for those 6 months and older. Those 5 years and older should receive a booster shot when due. Second booster shots are recommended for those age 50 and older and who are four months or more removed from their first booster, as well as younger individuals over 12 with serious and chronic health conditions that lead to being considered moderately to severely immunocompromised.
