PARKERSBURG -- A man was charged with robbery of a 10th Street residence in an incident that occurred on Tuesday, the Parkersburg Police Department said.
Officers accused Thomas Malone Jr., 21, homeless, after responding shortly before 1 a.m. to a residence on 10th Street where a man said he was assaulted and items were taken from the residence, police said. The victim stated he was lying in bed when he was struck on the head with an object was later determined to be his walking cane, police said.
The victim stated after being struck he began bleeding from the head and walked to the door of his residence to open the door and yell for help, police said. Upon opening the door, he observed a man he believed to be Malone behind his car and then flee from the area, police said.
The victim stated he soon discovered a bag missing from his residence that contained his wallet, keys and medication, police said. The victim was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center where he was treated for a laceration to his head and released, police said.
Detectives located surveillance video showing Malone in the area around the time the 911 call was made, police said. On Wednesday, Malone was interviewed by detectives and admitted to striking the victim with a walking cane, taking a bag from the residence and discarding it in a dumpster on Market Street, police said.
Malone was charged with robbery in the first-degree and placed in the Wood County Holding Center.
