PARKERSBURG -- Parkersburg Police arrested a man after he attempted to draw a gun on them Saturday evening, the police chief said.
Justin Dalrymple, 33, of Parkersburg, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, presenting a firearm during commission of a felony and felon in possession of a firearm, Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board said. His bond was set at $250,000 and he remained in custody on a parole hold Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Broadway Avenue around 8 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possible intoxicated driver, Board said. They found the vehicle in question in a parking lot and made contact with Dalrymple, who exited the vehicle at officers' request, he said.
Narcotics were observed in the vehicle in plain view, Board said.
Dalrymple then reached into the front of his waistband and "a slight struggle ensued," the chief said. The suspect was pulling a gun from his waistband but officers got control of his arm and the weapon was dropped, he said.
"The swift actions of the officers protected themselves, the community and the arrestee himself," Board said.
