CHARLESTON -- Another slight decrease in active COVID-19 cases was reported Wednesday in West Virginia by the Department of Health and Human Resources.
The state reported 2,157 active cases statewide, down from the 2,236 on Tuesday and 2,501 on Monday. The state also received 641 new cases since the Tuesday morning pandemic report from the department.
Active cases in local counties (previous day) are: Calhoun 3 (4), Doddridge 4 (5), Gilmer 3 (4), Jackson 9 (4), Pleasants 4 (2), Ritchie 5 (8), Roane 19 (19), Tyler 6 (5), Wetzel 12 (14), Wirt 6 (8) and Wood 42 (46).
One death was reported between Tuesday and Wednesday, a 90-year-old man from Putnam County. The count as of Wednesday was 6,933 deaths since the pandemic started more than two years ago.
"We send condolences to this family and to all who are grieving on this somber morning," said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary.
Statewide, there were 138 people in a hospital with COVID-19 complications, 62 unvaccinated. Twenty-seven patients are in an intensive care unit, 12 unvaccinated, with eight on a ventilator, one unvaccinated.
Nine pediatric COVID-19 hospitalizations were reported with four in ICU and two on a ventilator.
Twenty-four counties are yellow on the County Alert System Map, second lowest alert level from green.
Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants and Ritchie counties are yellow in this region. All other counties in the state are green.
Thirty-six staff and 18 inmates are infected, the Division of Corrections reported. Three cases were reported at Parkersburg Community Corrections.
