CHARLESTON -- COVID-19 deaths have exceeded 6,800 in West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources said on Tuesday.
The department reported the deaths of eight residents, six of those from the routine data reconciliation by the Bureau of Public Health.
Deaths were confirmed in Hampshire and Clay counties. Through the reconciliation, deaths were reported in Putnam, Kanawha, Cabell, Summers, Harrison and Tyler counties. The reconciliation deaths occurred from February to April.
"We mourn with all families suffering the loss of loved ones due to COVID-19," department Secretary Bill J. Crouch said.
Active cases slight dropped from 479 on Monday to 446 on Tuesday. The state also reported 95 new cases were received since the last report on Monday.
Current active cases in local counties (previous report) are: Calhoun 3 (2), Doddridge 0 (0), Gilmer 1 (1), Jackson 1 (2), Pleasants 0 (0), Ritchie 1 (1), Roane 3 (3), Tyler 1 (1), Wetzel 2 (3), Wirt 0 (1), Wood 16 (15).
All counties are green on the County Alert System Map. Green is the lowest level based on infection rates.
Eighty-seven people were in a hiosptial with COVID-19 complications, 38 of those unvaccinated. Twenty-six people, 11 unvaccinated, are in an intensive care unit with 10 people on a ventilator. six unvaccinated.
Two pediatric hospitalizations were reported.
