Study Sessions: Wood County Schools slates info series on bond

PARKERSBURG — Wood County Schools will hold three informational meetings beginning today on the $60.85 million facilities bond to be decided in the May 10 primary election.

Today’s session begins at 6:30 p.m. at Williamstown High/Middle School. Sessions also are scheduled 6:30 p.m. April 11 at Parkersburg South High School and 6:30 p.m. April 13 at Parkersburg High School.

The meetings also will be streamed online.

The public will be provided details on the scope of the bond, proposed facility projects, including construction of three new schools and renovation at multiple facilities. Residents also will be offered an opportunity to ask questions.

The Wood County Schools Board of Education has requested a bond totaling $60.85 million, which includes $300,000 in bond issuance fees.

Potential funding from the state School Building Authority could come to another $21 million and the total estimated cost of the projects is $81.55 million, according to a fact sheet from the school system.

With the maximum tax rate of 4.5 percent on a $200,000 house, the taxes are $10.88 per month, according to the fact sheet. The maximum tax rate of the 2017 and 2022 bonds combined on a $200,000 house is $17.42 per month, the fact sheet said.

The sessions were scheduled on those dates, times and locations to give more people a chance to participate. People at all three places will receive the same information.
