Pleasants County woman among latest COVID-19 deaths
CHARLESTON — Eight additional deaths have been attributed to COVID-19 in West Virginia, including that of a Pleasants County resident.
Three new deaths were reported Thursday by the state Department of Health and Human Resources: an 80-year-old woman from Pleasants County, an 84-year-old man from Berkeley County and a 73-year-old man from Putnam County.
The Bureau for Public Health’s ongoing data reconciliation with official death certificates added five more deaths, ranging in age from a 54-year-old Barbour County man to a 92-year-old Mason County woman, that occurred from January to March.
That brings the total deaths from the virus in West Virginia over the last two-plus years to 6,749, after 122 deaths in 2021 determined not to be related to the virus and five duplicate deaths were removed earlier this week.
“Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and to every person who has been affected by COVID-19,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR cabinet secretary.
Active cases increased slightly, from 305 Wednesday to 324 Thursday. Active cases in local counties (previous day) are: Calhoun, 2 (2); Doddridge, 0 (0); Gilmer, 2 (1); Jackson, 3 (3); Pleasants, 0 (0); Ritchie, 5 (4); Roane, 4 (4); Tyler, 1 (1); Wetzel, 2 (1); Wirt, 2 (1); Wood, 11 (10).
All counties remained green on the County Alert System map, representing the lowest level of spread based on the lower of the number of infections per 100,000 people in a given period or percentage of people testing positive.
