CHARLESTON -- Active cases are near 300 in West Virginia where a man from Wood County was among the four additional deaths confirmed Monday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The department reported the death of a 66-year-old man from Wood County and the deaths of a 55-year-old man from Kanawha County, an 82-year-old man from Jefferson County and a 78-year-old man from Webster County.
The death count since the pandemic started more than two years ago in West Virginia was at 6,839 as of Monday.
"COVID-19 has hurt far too many West Virginia families," DHHR Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. "I urge everyone to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine and booster shot as soon as possible."
Active cases as of Monday were 303, down from 376 in the last pandemic update on Friday.
Twenty-five active cases of the virus were reported in local counties on Monday.

All counties are green on the County Alert System Map. Green is the lowest level of spread.
The state is reporting one staff and five inmates are active cases in the Division of Corrections. One case was reported each at the St. Marys Correctional Center and the Parkersburg Community Corrections.
Fifty-eight staff and 73 residents of long-term care facilities are active cases.
The state reported 141 patients are in the hospital with COVID-19 complications, 77 of those are unvaccinated. Thirty-nine people are in an intensive care unit, 24 unvaccinated, and 20 patients are on a ventilator, 10 unvaccinated.
