Willis chosen as Wood Co. superintendent

PARKERSBURG -- In a 4-1 vote Tuesday, the Wood County Schools Board of Education hired Christie Willis, the district's Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Assessment, to be the new superintendent of schools.

Board members Justin Raber, Judy Johnson, Ron Tice and Debbie Hendershot voting in favor of hiring Willis, while Rick Olcott voted against.

Willis will serve a two-year term, at a salary of $150,000 per contract year. There will be further negotiations between the board and Willis about other things in her contract package.

In a press release from Michael Erb the communications coordinator for the school district, he said, "Willis was selected from among four finalists being considered for the position and a pool of eight applicants.

The vote followed a public forum Monday where the four finalists introduced themselves to community members and answered questions from the public."

In other matters, the board recognized the All-State Choir students, the 2022 Parkersburg South High School state championship swim team, and Chloe Lesher of Edison Middle School, the winner of the Marietta Times Regional Spelling Bee.
