Police: Harrisville woman arrested for firing at law enforcement
Cayla Ross
HARRISVILLE — A Harrisville woman was arrested last week after she shot a firearm toward members of law enforcement.
Officers answered a call reporting an altercation Feb. 25 and it led to the arrest of Cayla Ross, 35, 953 Hardbarger Road, Harrisville, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Ritchie County Magistrate Court.
The caller said Ross came to her house and started acting belligerent and the complaint said Ross was acting like she was on drugs.
Ross left the caller’s residence and law enforcement met up with her at her home. The complaint said when the officer came inside and announced themselves, Ross said “get the (expletive) off my property,” before firing a shot from a high-powered rifle.
The complaint said the officer believed Ross fired the shot because they had previous altercations with her and recognized her voice.
After backup officers arrived at her residence, Ross walked out of the house and resisted commands and arrest. The complaint said officers used physical force to get her on the ground and handcuff her.
While on the way to the cruiser, Ross said she “fired a .270 rifle,” the complaint said.
Ross is being charged with wanton endangerment involving a firearm and malicious assault and is being held at North Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
