CHARLESTON -- Two residents of Wood County were confirmed as deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus on Friday morning by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
Twenty people were confirmed as deaths Friday from the last report on Thursday by the department.
Included were a 70-year-old and an 84-year-old man from Wood County.
Deaths also were confirmed in Putnam, Hampshire, Mingo, Logan, Fayette, Kanawha, Jefferson, Berkeley, Wayne, Lincoln, Braxton, Raleigh, Randolph and Wyoming counties.
The death toll since the pandemic began was at 6,308 as of Friday.
"It is with sadness that we report another day of significant loss in our state," Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. "Please help stop the spread of COVID-19 by receiving your vaccine or booster shot."
Active cases dropped to 3,339 on Friday. New cases received were 913 between Thursday and Friday mornings.
Locally, 129 active cases have been reported in Wood County, a small drop of six from Thursday. Cases in other counties (previous day): Wirt, 1 (4); Wetzel 43 (33); Tyler 19 (21); Roane 33 (33); Ritchie 30 (26); Jackson 34 (28); Gilmer 13 (11); Doddridge 22 (17); Calhoun 29 (24).
The state reported 577 people are in a hospital, 361 of those unvaccinated, 129 people in an intensive care unit, 101 unvaccinated, and 74 people on a ventilator, 64 unvaccinated.
Wetzel and Ritchie moved from yellow, second lowest level, to gold, mid level, on the County Alert Map.
Wood, Wirt, Pleasants, Jackson, and Gilmer are green, lowest level. Tyler, Doddridge, Calhoun and Roane are yellow.
