PARKERSBURG -- A call came in to the Parkersburg Fire Department at 7:36 p.m. that a fire broke out at 659 13th Street.
Captain Matt Geary said rescue one and engine three arrived on scene first a few minutes after the call came in. Geary said there were no fire department injuries or fatalities.
"We had heavy flames coming through the second story, the attic area," said Geary. "With the extent of fire and the status of the structure, we had to worry about the floor collapsing, that's why we did a defensive attack."
He said they will search the bottom of the house as soon as the fire clears out. He said he doesn't know the reason for the fire at this time, but it will be investigated by Fire Lieutenant Jody Casto.
"There has been a fire here before, but I'm not sure of the details," he said. "But there has been a history of fire, there is a history of the homeless in there."
