CHARLESTON -- Twenty additional COVID-19 deaths were reported by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources as of Tuesday morning.
The state has seen 5,211 deaths caused by COVID and a 53-year-old male from Wood County was included in Tuesday's count through the Bureau for Public Health's data reconciliation.
"We send our sincere condolences to these families for their profound loss," Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary said. "The COVID vaccine is safe, effective, readily available and free. Please schedule your COVID vaccine or booster today."
Jackson County is in the red on the county alert map with 79 cases. The following counties are in the orange: Wood (254), Calhoun (36), Roane (69) and Doddridge (38). Pleasants County is green with 17 active cases and Ritchie is gold with 34 cases.
People over the age of 50 who are vaccinated and boosted after Dec. 7 can sign up for the "Do It For Babydog: Senior Center Edition" to win a $50 gift card.
Free testing is available at Vienna Baptist Church at 3401 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Dec. 27 and 28.
