CHARLESTON -- An 86-year old male from Jackson County was among the nine deaths recorded Wednesday from COVID-19.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported that as of that date, there were currently 9,285 active cases statewide, and nine deaths recorded since the last report, with the total of 5,251 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
There have been 319,035 cases since the start of the pandemic.
An 86-year-old Cabell County man, listed in this report, died in November.
Bill J. Crouch, the cabinet secretary for the DHHR said, "During this holiday season, and always, we mourn the loss of these West Virginians and send our deepest sympathies to their loved ones.
"Please choose vaccination to prevent spread and illness," Crouch said.
Jackson County is in the red, at 97 (87) cases, In the orange, the following counties are: Wood, 250 (234), Calhoun, 52 (44), Roane, 65 (64), Doddridge, 30 (43), Wetzel, 50 (38),and Gilmer, 40 (43).
Pleasants County is in the green at 18 (15), with Wirt, 16 (15), and Tyler, 17 (13) in the yellow.
People in West Virginia ages 5 years and older are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Boosters are also available for those age 18 and older. To learn more about the vaccine, or to find a vaccine site, visit vaccinate.wv.gov or call 1-833-734-0965.
Free testing is available at Vienna Baptist Church at 3401 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 27 and 28.
