CHARLESTON -- Since the last report from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, 24 COVID related deaths occurred in the state.
As of Wednesday, the DHHR reported 6,115 active cases throughout the state and 4,592 deaths. The deaths were people ranging in age from 47 to 90.
"The continued loss of West Virginians weighs heavily on all of us, with the greatest sadness borne by family and friends," Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary said. "Please schedule your vaccine or booster today."
According to the county alert system, 10 counties in the state are in the red. Wood, Jackson and Roane counties are labeled as orange, Calhoun and Tyler counties are gold, Ritchie County is yellow and Pleasants, Wirt and Doddridge counties are green.
Those counties have the following numbers of active cases as of Wednesday: Wood, 210; Jackson, 81; Roane, 92; Calhoun, 29; Tyler, 19; Ritchie, 18; Pleasants, 8; Wirt, 10; Doddridge, 7.
Statewide, 530 people are hospitalized with COVID; 401 of those people (75.7 percent) are not vaccinated and 129 (26.3 percent) are fully vaccinated. Over 84 percent (150) of the 177 people in the intensive care unit are unvaccinated and 15 percent (27) of the people are fully vaccinated.
Eight-one people around the state are on ventilators and 69 (85.2 percent) of those people have not been vaccinated; 12 patients (15.3 percent) have been vaccinated.
In the Mid-Ohio Valley, WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center reported 33 hospitaliztions, five patients in the intensive care unit and eight people are on ventilators. Nine of the 33 patients in the hospital have been vaccinated, none of the ICU patients have had the vaccine and one of the eight patients on ventilators is vaccinated.
