CHARLESTON -- Active cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia again increased in the 24 hours between Thursday and Friday morning, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources.
The department reported 6,727 active cases across the state, up from 6,484 cases on Thursday and 6,115 on Wednesday.
Another 1,138 new cases were reported between Thursday and Friday mornings. More than 3,100 new cases have been logged in the last three days.
No deaths were reported in the 24-hour period from Thursday to Friday, which the state attributed to Thursday being the Veterans Day holiday.
Locally, active cases on Friday in Wood County were at 232, up from 221 on Thursday. Active cases in other local counties as of Friday were (previous day): Calhoun 36 (29); Doddridge, 6 (9); Gilmer, 8 (8); Jackson, 88 (87); Pleasants, 14 (11); Ritchie, 22 (19); Roane, 96 (91); Tyler, 14 (15); Wetzel, 69 (60); Wirt, 11 (9).
Jackson County is the only red county on the County Alert System map, the highest level of infection rates. Wood, Wetzel, Roane and Calhoun are orange, second highest.
Tyler and Doddridge are yellow, second lowest, and Pleasants and Wirt are green, lowest.
Fourteen counties in the state are red.
WVU Medicine Camden Clark reported 33 COVID patients, of whom eight are vaccinated. Five patients are in ICU, none of them vaccinated, and seven patients are on ventilators, none vaccinated.
