CHARLESTON -- There were 17 COVID-19 deaths reported Friday in West Virginia, since the previous report on Thursday.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported the 17 deaths along with 902 new cases of the virus which were reported in the 24-hour period between Thursday and Friday mornings.
The deaths ranging from the youngest, a 21-year-old male from Kanawha County, to the oldest, an 87-year-old female from Berkeley County. Other deaths included people from Morgan, Monongalia, Boone, Preston, Mineral, Hancock, Cabell, Randolph, Marion, and Fayette counties.
"COVID-19 continues to be a threat to West Virginia," said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. "We must continue to support those grieving losses and renew our dedication to safety and prevention measures by being vaccinated against this terrible disease."
There were 4,426 confirmed deaths in West Virginia since the start of the pandemic.
Statewide there were 7,629 active cases as of Friday, up from 7,532 on Thursday.
Active case totals in local counties Friday (previous day) were: Calhoun, 48 (44); Doddridge, 96 (101); Gilmer, 31 (24); Jackson, 83 (92); Pleasants, 18 (18); Ritchie, 17 (21); Roane, 75 (73); Tyler, 13 (15); Wetzel, 86 (84); Wirt, 15 (15); Wood, 280 (286).
The WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center is reporting six out of 41 total COVID patients had been vaccinated; zero in 10 patients in ICU had been vaccinated; and one out of nine vented patients had been vaccinated.
