Wood County Grand Jury issues slew of indictments

PARKERSBURG — Murder, child neglect resulting in death and the distribution of child pornography were among charges set by the Wood County Grand Jury on Thursday.

In March, Hillary Paige Dennison, 27, 1250 Sunshine Mountain Road, Williamstown, was arrested for shooting and killing her father, Harold Dennison, and Beau Wasmer, believed to be her fiancee.

Harold Dennison was pronounced dead at the scene and Wasmer died shortly after being taken for medical care.

Hillary Dennison admitted to a detective that she had “fired a gun intentionally at Harold Dennison which subsequently killed both victims,” according to a criminal complaint filed with the Wood County Magistrate Court.

She was indicted on two counts of murder and possession of controlled substance. She is being held at North Central Regional Jail.

A 5-year-old boy was killed in a car crash this past May with his father, Roy Thomas Tranter, 45, 210 Deerwalk Highway, Waverly, driving.

The vehicle went off the road and rolled its passenger side. His son wasn’t restrained and ejected the vehicle, the criminal complaint said.

Tranter was indicted on charges of child neglect resulting in death, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance causing death and driving with a revoked license for a DUI charge, third offense. He is being held at North Central Regional Jail.

Mark Ronald Barnard, 69, 1908 19th St., Parkersburg, admitted to looking at child pornography on his home computer and cybertips led law enforcement to a search warrant in May 2020. He was arrested in February 2021.

The warrant revealed a video over four minutes long involving a juvenile male engaging in sexual acts with an animal, more than 1,500 images and 20 videos.

“There is children and teenagers and it’s hard to tell the difference sometimes, but I have looked at porn,” Barnard said in the criminal complaint.

Barnard was indicted on two counts of distribution and exhibition of material depicting minors engaged in sexual explicit content.
