PARKERSBURG -- Earlier this week, the Wood County Board of Education approved Superintendent Will Hosaflook's goals for the 2021-2022 school year.
The goals are summed up under four categories: Academic and instructional programs; fiscal management, systems and structures; and community relations.
Although the past few years have brought new hurdles and unprecedented situations, Hosaflook offers reassurance that the goals of the school system remain the same with students' best interest in mind.
"There are challenges every year, but the past two years have presented Wood County Schools with a whole new level of hurdles to overcome. Even so, our core mission remains the same: To provide the best possible educational opportunities for our students in safe and welcoming learning environments," Hosaflook said.
Promoting high expectations and standards to encourage increased student achievement is one of the topics outlined by Hosaflook.
With a mission of monitoring and improving virtual school programs, Hosaflook said another goal is allow for schools to analyze data and "make sound instructional decisions to promote student academic access."
Hosaflook plans to work with the board of education to make sure all Wood County Schools' facilities are maintained and to make fiscally responsible decisions in doing so. By interacting with stakeholders and community members, Hosaflook strives for the betterment of Wood County Schools.
Providing a healthy and safe environment for staff and students is another hope for the school year as well as keeping track of administrator accountability and evaluating instructional leadership.
With virtual learning a major part of education over the past year, Hosaflook emphasized the importance of keeping students in the classroom.
"One of our primary goals this school year has been to keep students and staff in the classroom. We have learned nothing can replace in-person, face-to-face instruction. We have and will continue to do everything we can to facilitate high quality, in-person learning while keeping everyone safe and healthy," Hosaflook said.
