Belpre City Council discusses water rate increase at meeting
BELPRE — Belpre City Council Monday read the first reading of six ordinances and the second reading of two ordinances, including legislation for a water rate increase.
Fourth Ward Councilwoman Penne Riffle called a committee discussing the Washington Boulevard paving, waterline and sewer line replacement, before the city council meeting. The committee did not make any decisions. Riffle commented that she would talk to City Law Director Tom Webster about clarifying anything confusing in the proposal. Sales Representative Allie Terrell with Servline explained that the service is very flexible and can be opt-ed out or in at any time.
Servline is a leak adjustment and water and sewer line repair service. This program will give coverage for waterlines and sewer lines to whoever signs up for the service.
Sam Tuten and Bret Allphin with Sixmo Architects and Engineers made a quick presentation via Zoom about their work with Safety-Service Director Connie Hoblitzell and Belpre Mayor Michael L. Lorentz. Sixmo plans to work with the council and different city committees on projects including zoning revisions and dilapidated properties.
In the unfinished business section of the meeting, the second reading of the ordinance amending chapter 1501.01 of the Belpre Fire Prevention Code passed, as well as the second reading to amend sections of the Golf Cart Ordinance, that was adopted June 28 and other existing Belpre code of ordinances section.
In the new business section of the meeting, the first reading of the ordinance approving the edition and inclusion of certain ordinance as parts of the various component codes of the codified ordinances of Belpre passed, as well as the ordinance authorizing all actions necessary to formally accept a Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council grant issued to the city, and the ordinance to amend the Belpre code of ordinances section no. 1313.12(B) 1,2, and 3. The ordinance to amend Belpre code of ordinances section no. 939.03, Exhibit A, also passed. This ordinance will increase the water rates for Belpre.
The first reading of the ordinance to amend Belpre code of ordinances section no. 1145.01(e), to add additional permitted uses in the C-3 Commercial Recreation District, was tabled until further discussion, as well as the ordinance to amend the Belpre Code of Ordinance Section no. 1141.04.
