WILLIAMSTOWN - A Vienna woman did it for Babydog and was awarded a brand new truck for the "Do It For Babydog: Save a Life, Change your life" vaccine lottery Tuesday afternoon.
Marietta College adjunct music teacher Megan Landsberg, of Vienna, was the winner of the 2021 Toyota Tacoma.
Along with Megan, her husband Nils Landsberg and three sons came to the West Virginia Welcome Center in Williamstown and were surprised by Gov. Jim Justice, Babydog and their new truck.
Sitting on the bed of the truck next to Babydog, Justice said, "This is yours. You won this in our drawing. Thank you so much for all you're doing, thank you for getting vaccinated, thank you for registering, thank you for your beautiful family being in West Virginia."
Nils said winning the truck was "pretty incredible. We have a lot to talk about with what to do with it. It's just incredible, we didn't expect this."
It took Megan by surprise when a state trooper came to her house to verify that she has car insurance. Little did she know that she would end up winning the vaccine lottery.
"He came to my house and said he was doing a random check for driver's insurance," she said. "We definitely need another car but we're going to have to look at all of our options and see what's best for our family. It's definitely a great thing."
The Landsbergs moved to West Virginia from Texas almost exactly a year ago and Megan said she's been enjoying living here.
"It's been fun, it's been fun exploring and the boys really love it here," she said.
Getting the vaccine was an easy decision for Megan; she said she believes in them and thinks it is the safest and best way to combat the coronavirus, especially with the spread of the delta variant.
She said she is impressed with the medical field and its ability to come up with a successful vaccine so quickly and by getting the shot, it's "so we can protect the kids because they can't get vaccinated yet. Any chance that we can take to protect us from severe disease, that's kind of a no brainer for us."
Spencer resident Wally Board won the lottery's grand prize of $1,588,000, presented to him Tuesday by Justice and Babydog at his family business, Board-Depue Realty.
Tuesday was the final round of the vaccine lottery but it's possible there might be another one coming, according to Justice's office.
The "Do It For Babydog" vaccine lottery was an interactive program to encourage residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Along with Megan, Martin Poole of Vienna, Torie Jackson of Pennsboro, Rory Marant of St. Marys and Sarah Meeks of Sistersville won West Virginia State Park weekend getaways as announced Tuesday.
In Wood County, four won big prizes; Karen Foley of Mineral Wells won $1 million and Melissa Spivy of Vienna, Ralph Paugh of Parkersburg and Ciara Jacobs of Parkersburg won new trucks.
