PARKERSBURG -- A Parkersburg man was in a standoff with the Parkersburg Police Department after shooting multiple rounds out of his residence at the Rowen Apartment complex early Saturday morning.
Parkersburg Police Chief Joseph Martin said that Parkersburg City police officers responded to a call complaining of gunshots at 509 Buckeye Street Building A apartment 301 at 1 a.m. Saturday morning. Once officers got to the complex, they noticed bullet holes coming out of the apartment on the third floor, and were able to safely evict the people living on the same floor.
Officers then tried to negotiate peacefully with the renter, David Adams, 50, throughout the entire night. However, Adams shot 42 gunshots with various rifle calibers and rounds out of his window, even hitting the other apartments in the complex.
Martin said that officers have had been in contact with Adams in the past.
At 7 a.m., the department's SWAT team used chemical ammunition and made entry into Adams' apartment. Bringing Adams down was successful.
No injuries were made to the officers or the public, while Adams was taken to Camden Clark to be checked on.
"We responded to complaints of gunshots, and the officer did a really good job that initially responded," Martin said. "None of our officers and public were injured. Thank goodness."
Martin said that once Adams is released from the hospital, he will be charged with 42 counts of wanton endangerment.
