Arrest after police chase spans three counties

ST. MARYS -- A Marshall County man was arrested after a police chase spanning from Tyler County into Pleasants and Wood Counties Monday morning.
Andrew William Bungard, 20, 1012 Sawmill Lane, Glen Easton, W.Va., and another male were arrested after being detained by a Wood County Deputy Sheriff, according to the complaint in Wood County Magistrate Court.
St. Marys Police Chief Bill Stull said the pursuit started in Sistersville where law enforcement attempted to pull over Bungard for a defective headlight.
The pursuit went into St. Marys around 1 a.m. when St. Marys police officers were able to spike two of the tires, which slowed the pursuit to below 40 miles per hour, Stull said.
Wood County law enforcement was notified the vehicle was traveling south at about 40 miles per hour with two tires deflated, the complaint said.
An officer responded near the Wood County line on Bull Run Road where he saw the vehicle in question with several cruisers following, according to the complaint.
Additional officers were staged at the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department and the intersection of Emerson Avenue and Williamstown Pike in Parkersburg, the complaint said.
The vehicle drove left of center and crossed the double yellow lines several times; pieces of debris were flying from the vehicle, the wheels formed a gouge in the pavement near Meadowview Drive and sparks flew from the wheels on the passenger's side of the vehicle, according to the complaint.
After stopping north of Five Mile Road, multiple members of law enforcement approached the vehicle and came into contact with Bungard, the driver, the complaint said.
Bungard is being charged with fleeing from an officer and is being held at North Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 surety bond.
Another man who was a passenger will not be charged, Stull said.
