Authorities arrest suspect in Parkersburg murder

Police say Thompson behind shooting

PARKERSBURG — Victor Lee Thompson and Kierston Holbrooks-Mick were captured and arraigned Sunday, after an extensive week-long manhunt that involved numerous law enforcement agencies.

Thompson, 43, was wanted for alleged involvement in a homicide. According to the criminal complaint for Thompson, it is alleged that Thompson arrived at 4420 17th Ave. Parkersburg as a passenger in a dark colored Dodge truck. Upon entering the residence Thompson allegedly assaulted a female who resides at the residence with a pistol, and then used the pistol to shoot Darren Jimmie Salaam, 36, of Akron, Ohio. Thompson then allegedly fled the scene as a passenger in the same truck.

Holbrooks-Mick was wanted for charges stemming from Washington County.

According to a press release, the department received information Saturday that two individuals matching the description of Thompson and Holbrooks-Mick were located in a cabin along W.Va. Rt. 47 just inside Ritchie County.

Individuals that were checking on the cabin for the homeowner who is out of town encountered two individuals in the cabin who indicated they had permission to be there. The two individuals were told they were not allowed to be there and were sent on their way.

According to the police department, it was at this time the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police responded to the scene and further evidence was located that indicated it was in fact Thompson and Holbrooks-Mick who were in the cabin.

Sunday the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department, Wirt County Sheriff’s Department, West Virginia State Police and Parkersburg Police Detectives reconvened in the area to search for Thompson and Holbrooks-Mick.

After a couple of hours of searching the area officers located Thompson and Holbrooks- Mick hiding in a trailer in the area of McFarland Lane in Ritchie County, according to a press release.

The two were taken into custody without incident.

Thompson was arraigned by Magistrate Robin Waters on a charge of murder and is being held without bond. A bond hearing will be held at Wood County Circuit Court at a later date. Holbrooks-Mick was arraigned by Waters for being a fugitive from justice from Washington County and is being held without bond. She will have a hearing at Wood County Circuit Court later this week.

The Parkersburg Police Department said they want to thank the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department, Wirt County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police for their assistance in the investigation.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law. A criminal complaint is a document that alleges a criminal offense.
