PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Utility Board will flow test fire hydrants, starting Monday.
The tests are needed to determine the amount of water that can be safely accessed from a hydrant during firefighting events. The procedure consists of flushing hydrants for several minutes.
Hydrants will be tested in the following areas:
* MONDAY -- 2700 Broad St., Plum and 25th Street, Liberty and 25th Street, Cypress and 26th Street, Liberty and 27th Street, Cypress and 27th Street
* TUESDAY -- 516 Broadway Ave., Fern Street and Sixth Avenue, 514 Wilbur St. (Wilbur Street and Sixth Avenue), 509 Ward Place, Ward Place and Seventh Avenue, Wilbur Street and Seventh Avenue
* WEDNESDAY -- Erickson Field parking lot, Murray Lane at Arrow Concrete, 4809 Fourth Ave., Edgelawn and Third Avenue, 5003 Elmwood Ave., 511 Dean St.
* THURSDAY -- 3906 Ninth Ave., Marshall Court and 11th Avenue, Marshall Court and 10th Avenue, Olive Street and 10th Avenue, Olive Street and Eighth Avenue, Broadway and Cliffside Avenue
* FRIDAY -- 2203 Capital Drive, 2107 Capital Circle, Nora Street and 21st Avenue, Nora Street and 24th Avenue, 2202 Beverly St.
Testing will begin around 9:30 a.m. The process may result in discolored water in the distribution system in the affected areas. If customers experience discolored water, they are advised to flush their system through a cold water tap at a bathtub or utility sink. If the water does not clear within a few minutes, customers should contact the PUB office at 304-424-8535 during business hours or 304-424-8532 after 4:30 p.m.
