2 arrested in Roane County incidents

SPENCER — Two people were recently arrested in Roane County involving separate instances of a high-speed car chase and brandishing a butcher knife toward a police officer.

Shawn M. Drennen, 36, 3235 Thorofare Road, Clendenin, caught the attention of law enforcement last week after he ran a stop sign, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Roane County Magistrate Court.

The officer flashed his lights and sirens to pull over Drennen, which escalated into a high-speed chase, the complaint said. The pursuit route was near the border of Kanawha and Roane counties with speeds exceeding 100 mph, according to the complaint.

Through 911 calls, officers were able to track down the vehicle at a residence at 1935 West Union Road and the owner of the home said he saw a male and female inside the car, the complaint said. The two were found nearby the bushes and were arrested, the complaint said.

Drug paraphernalia was found near the two suspects along with a residue found to be methamphetamine, according to the complaint.

Drennen was charged with fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference, defective equipment, driving with a suspended license, failure to stop at a stop sign, fleeing on foot, obstructing an officer and no inspection. He was being held at Central Regional Jail.

Following a separate incident, Shari Lynn Dolin, 55, 1969 Otto Road, Spencer, was arrested Monday, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Roane County Magistrate Court.

An officer responded to Dolin’s residence after an open line 911 call to make sure there wasn’t an emergency, the complaint said. Dolin was found asleep in her room and EMS was contacted because the officer was unable to wake her. Two empty prescription bottles were next to the bed, according to the complaint.

When Dolin awakened, she walked into the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife and pointed it toward the officer, the complaint said. Dolin hid the knife inside the blanket and initially did not comply when officers asked her to put it down, according to the complaint.

Dolin is being charged with the assault of a police officer, obstructing an officer and brandishing a deadly weapon and was being held on a $10,000 surety bond.

Starting at $2.99/week.
