WILLIAMSTOWN -- Two Vienna men were arrested Sunday after shooting a paintball gun toward a police officer.
Josue Javier Vega, 18, 1 Campus View Drive, Vienna, and Bryan Sonny Perez, 19, same address, were inside a vehicle and aimed paintball guns toward a police officer who was on patrol at W. Third Street and Highland Avenue in Williamstown, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Wood County Magistrate court.
While sitting stationery at the intersection, the officer heard what sounded like a gunshot after a vehicle pulled up to a stop light, the complaint said.
Vega was seen climbing out of the back seat window on the driver's side and aiming an unknown item towards the officer, the complaint said.
"It was at that time (the officer) realized he was being targeted," the complaint said.
After moving closer to the vehicle in question, Vega jumped back inside the car; the officer held the five occupants of the vehicle at gunpoint until backup arrived, the complaint said.
When the other units arrived, the five were removed from the vehicle and an item that appeared to be a black firearm was found under where Vega was sitting, according to the complaint.
An item that looked like a black firearm was also found under the seat where Perez was sitting, the complaint said.
It was later discovered the two firearms were paintball guns, the complaint said.
Perez and Vega admitted to firing the paintball guns toward the officer, the complaint said.
Perez and Vega are being charged with the assault of a police officer and they were released on a $1,000 surety bond.
