PARKERSBURG – The city of Parkersburg has an offer to purchase the Memorial Bridge.

Parkersburg City Council will meet April 29 as the Committee of the Whole to discuss a bid from United Bridge Partners, a Colorado-based company that has undertaken bridge projects in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Virginia, according to a release from Mayor Tom Joyce.

If the proposal is approved by council in future meetings, the city would receive $4 million, and ownership of the bridge would be transferred from the city to UBP. The city would continue to operate the tolls and perform ordinary maintenance while the company undertakes an extensive rehabilitation project.

Once that work is completed, UBP would assume full responsibility for the bridge and collect tolls electronically, the release says.
