Wood County man the only W.Va. COVID-19 death on Tuesday
CHARLESTON — One death from the COVID-19 virus was reported in West Virginia on Tuesday, an 83-year-old man from Wood County, the Department of Health and Human Resources said in its pandemic update.
The death toll in West Virginia since the pandemic started a year ago was 2,613 as of Tuesday morning.
Active cases of the virus totaled 5,526 with 327 new cases reported in the 24-hour period from Monday to Tuesday morning. Active cases dropped 474 from Monday to Tuesday, the first decrease in a week.
Hospitalizations were 195, an increase since the 151 on March 12, with 67 patients in an intensive care unit and 19 on ventilators.
Vaccination clinics are being held this week throughout the state. Residents 16 and older can register for a vaccination at vaccinate.wv.gov or call 1-833-734-0965 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
All clinic appointments have been assigned to those pre-registered through the West Virginia COVID-19 Vaccine Registration System as vaccine supplies allow. Individuals will be notified through the Vaccine Registration System or their local health department if they are selected for an appointment in their area. Vaccine supplies are limited and walk-ins are not accepted.
