CHARLESTON -- Two Wood County residents and one Jackson County resident were among the COVID deaths, reported Tuesday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 79-year-old female from Wood County, an 80-year-old male from Wood County and an 81-year-old male from Jackson County.
The DHHR also confirmed the deaths of a 64-year-old female from Lincoln County, a 68-year-old female from Logan County, an 85-year-old male from Boone County, a 53-year-old male from Lincoln County, a 53-year-old female from Cabell County, an 81-year-old male from Marion County, a 64-year-old male from Kanawha County, a 71-year-old female from Wayne County, a 71-year-old male from Preston County, an 80-year-old male from Cabell County, a 69-year-old female from Logan County and a 74-year-old female from Boone County.
"It never gets easier to announce the number of COVID-19 cases or the lives lost," said Bill J. Crouch, Cabinet Secretary of DHHR. "This pandemic has affected all West Virginians. Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and to every person who has been affected by COVID-19."
Active cases in local counties as of Tuesday morning's update from the state DHHR were: Calhoun, 11; Doddridge, 22; Gilmer, 8; Jackson, 17; Pleasants, 6; Ritchie, 10; Roane, 9; Tyler, 27; Wetzel, 80; Wirt, 9; and Wood, 166.
Vaccination rates of local counties by the number of doses administered and percent of population receiving at least one dose: Doddridge, 3,817, 45.2; Wetzel, 6,359, 42.3; Pleasants, 2,773, 37.2; Gilmer, 2,773, 35.5; Wirt, 2,026, 34.8; Roane, 4,507, 33; Tyler, 2,786; 32.5; Ritchie, 3,027, 31.7; Calhoun, 2,413, 34; Jackson, 8,500, 29.8; Wood, 22,303, 26.7.
Statewide there have been 392,736 people who have had the first dose of vaccine and 246,568 who have received both doses and are fully vaccinated, the DHHR reported.
The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department announced on its Facebook page the Roane County Vaccine Coalition has upcoming open appointments for persons aged 50 and older to receive the COVID 19 vaccine.
Even if someone has previously registered on the West Virginia vaccine list, they can call 304-927-6889 to schedule a local appointment for the COVID 19 vaccine, the post said.
Free vaccination clinics have been scheduled throughout the state. All the clinics listed are by appointment only, and individuals will be contacted if they are selected for a slot.
