MARIETTA -- The Mid-Ohio Valley Players will take audiences to the beach and through the years in their latest production, premiering Friday.

"The Sweet Delilah Swim Club" - by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten - tells the story of five college friends who gather at the Outer Banks of North Carolina every August to laugh, occasionally argue and get away from their home lives. The show depicts four of their weekends together, from 1988 to present day.

Becca Buck plays former nun Jeri Neal McFeeley and says the laughs have been nonstop both on and off the stage.

"The first time we got together to read through the script, we were pausing to laugh at all the jokes and we still haven't gotten tired of them," Buck said. "I can't wait for audiences to laugh along with these five women. We have all grown so close as a cast, and I think that shows in our performance."

It's the last Mid-Ohio Valley performance for Veronica "Nikki" Fields, who is moving out of state next month.

"I think all of the characters in this show really do have a big heart. And it continues to grow throughout their relationship," said Fields, who plays lawyer Dinah Grayson.

The cast also features Vanessa Rake, Amber Smrek and Leslie McGoron. The play is directed by Rod Poling and the assistant director is Tim Tuten.

"It's been a real pleasure working with these ladies because they're all seasoned actresses and they've all developed their character," he said. "It's going to be a great show. … It will make you laugh, and it will make you cry."

"The Sweet Delilah Swim Club" will be presented at 8 p.m. March 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the Mid-Ohio Valley Players Theater, 229 Putnam St., Marietta.

Tickets are limited to comply with Ohio's 25 percent entertainment venue capacity order during the COVID-19 pandemic. Masks must be worn in the theater, and social distancing will be practiced. Tickets are $12 each and are available at midohiovalleyplayers.org.
