Gallia County accident leaves one person dead

GALLIPOLIS — One person was killed in a two-car accident Tuesday night in Gallia County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Ruth A. Patterson, 78, Gahanna, Ohio, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington from injuries in the accident on Ohio 160 about a mile north of milepost 3, the Gallipolis Post said.

Patterson was driving a 2013 Honda Civic east on U.S. 35 and was on the exit ramp to Ohio 160 where she failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road and into a ditch, hit the embankment and entered onto Ohio 160 where her car struck a north-bound Ford pickup driven by Ernest S. Baker, 48, of Athens, the patrol said.

Baker was uninjured, the patrol said. Patterson was airlifted to St. Mary’s where she passed away, the patrol said.

The accident happened shortly before 7:30 p.m.

The patrol was assisted by Gallia County EMS, the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office and the Gallipolis Fire Department.
