Five Mid-Ohio Valley residents in latest unreported COVID-19 deaths
CHARLESTON — Five Mid-Ohio Valley residents were among the 20 previously unreported COVID-19 fatalities announced Friday by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
Two more were included in the 10 deaths confirmed in the 24-hour period prior to the morning update.
The state’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 2,600 overall with the inclusion of 20 deaths revealed when the Health Statistics Center, which is part of DHHR’s Bureau for Public Health, conducted a data match using death certificates.
Two Wood County residents, an 86-year-old woman and an 89-year-old man; a 58-year-old Wirt County man; a 70-year-old man from Wetzel County; and a 72-year-old Tyler County man were part of that group. The release from DHHR did not indicate when the deaths occurred.
The deaths of a 75-year-old Jackson County man and a 69-year-old man from Wood County were part of the regular update Friday morning.
“We solemnly observe the passing of more state residents and extend our sincere sympathies to their loved ones,” said Bill J. Crouch, Cabinet Secretary of DHHR. “We must continue following the recommendations to help ensure the health and safety of our fellow West Virginians.”
