Wood County resident among COVID deaths
CHARLESTON — One person from Wood County was confirmed as a death from the COVID-19 coronavirus Wednesday morning from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The state confirmed the death of a76-year-old male from Wood County, according to the Wednesday morning pandemic update from the department.
Eleven additional deaths from the virus were confirmed in the 24-hour period from Tuesday to Wednesday morning. The total of deaths since the pandemic started a year ago was at 2,285 as of Wednesday morning.
Deaths were also confirmed on Wednesday of residents from Mercer, Berkeley, Grant, Kanawha, Boone, Marion and Logan counties, according to the state.
Active cases were at 8,067 as of Wednesday with 243 new cases reported from Tuesday to Wednesday. Current active cases have not been that low since Nov. 11.
Also continuing the downward trend are hospitalizations. As of Wednesday, there were 294 people in a hospital, with 74 in an intensive care unit and 40 on ventilators.
The state has fully vaccinated 169,832 people.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department earlier this week said those originally scheduled to get a booster vaccine today at West Virginia University at Parkersburg should come on Friday at the same time of their original appointment.
