CHARLESTON -- A local resident was among the confirmed deaths reported Friday morning by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
The department confirmed the death of a 68-year-old man from Wood County among the 13 additional deaths over the 24 hours from Thursday morning to Friday morning. The number of confirmed deaths since the pandemic began in March was at 2,200 as of Friday morning, the department said in its Friday COVID-19 coronavirus update.
Also confirmed were deaths of residents from Fayette, Harrison, Berkeley, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Mercer and Lincoln counties.
The state has fully vaccinated 122,017 people. Go to vaccinate.wv.gov to register for a vaccination or for information.
Virus numbers are continuing a downward trend. Active cases totaled 13,103 as of Friday morning, the lowest number of active cases since Nov. 21.
The state reported 467 new positive test results on Friday with a daily positivity rate of 3.17 percent and a cumulative rate of 5.57 percent. While it has fluctuated, the daily rate is at its lowest since September and October at 3.17 percent. Cumulative was at 5.57 percent as of Friday.
Hospitalizations totaled 348 as of Friday with 80 people in an intensive care unit and 39 on ventilators, numbers that also are decreasing.
