Weekend auto accident claims life of Ohio resident

GALLIPOLIS — One man was killed Saturday morning in an accident on Ohio 124 near milepost 40, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Elmer B. Parsons III, 42, Racine, Ohio, was killed when the pick up truck he was driving went out of control on ice, a release from the Gallipolis Post said. The truck went off the road and struck an embankment, ejecting Parsons from the vehicle, the patrol said.

The accident, which remains under investigation, occurred around 7:30 a.m., the patrol said. The road was closed for about three hours, the patrol said.

Parsons was not wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said.

Responding were the Meigs County Sheriff, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Meigs County EMS, the Racine Volunteer Fire Department, the Meigs County Coroner and Ridgetop Towing. Parsons was taken to the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home.
