PARKERBURG – Traffic is being diverted on Emerson Avenue approaching the Memorial Bridge after a malfunctioning City of Parkersburg sanitation truck took down utility lines, poles and traffic lights.
The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m., Parkersburg Police Sgt. S.A. Semones said. A side panel on the recycling truck had apparently opened and the driver could not get it closed. It snagged a utility line at Emerson and Ohio avenues, causing a chain reaction that also damaged two cars, Semones said.
“Believe it or not, nobody got hurt,” he said.
Crews from MonPower are on scene putting up replacement poles. Traffic was being rerouted around the intersection.
